I hadn't painted in almost three months. I didn't have the time or energy to stand at my easel all day. Everyone knows why. This pain for my native country is more than just political and historical events. Somewhere recently I saw a story where Ukraine's relationship with Russia was compared to a dysfunctional couple. This is deeply ingrained in my mind. In fact, every woman to a greater or lesser extent asserts her right to live her life the way she wants, to fight slander, to keep her ear to the ground, to look around, to assess her intentions and never to relax. Never relax, because she will be ground up in the meat grinder of history. But where to get that damn resource?
When there isn't a moment to be safe. And no wonder all women, wherever they are, feel that pain and give up some of that resource.
